My husband's work entails a lot of interstate travel. I can't exactly come along, being left to manage the business we have in town.
Besides, our three kids are not old enough to look after themselves. Since my husband would be away for weeks on end, we took care to install different home security defenses including surveillance camera equipment, a wireless security system, entry and pool alarms.
I guessed I perceived a noise coming from outside one late night which disturbed my nap. I wondered if I had activated the voice-controlled driveway alarm however, I had the impression it was on.
I was confident that any one of our home security defenses would have sounded off by then if we had an intruder. Still, I could not shake the feeling that someone was trying to break into the house.
My husband was asleep so, I did not try wake him up and headed to the ground floor to check if our various home security defenses were all turned on. Right away I spotted that the magnetic door alarm on the front entry was indeed turned on.
I was standing around, checking some window glass breakage alarms, when I caught a shadow in my peripheral vision. I guessed that crossing the kitchen to go back upstairs would only alert a possible burglar of my presence.
As quietly as I could, I maneuvered toward the back door where a motion-activated auto dialer security alarm was mounted. I hoped it would detect my movement and release an alarm sound, alerting my husband and the police. And it did.
The cops apprehended two guys at the gate while making their way out of a weak spot. Obviously, they had been hopelessly attempting to cross our strong home security defenses via the doors and windows but they panicked and ran after I accidentally sounded the alarm.
